Gigi Hadid may have spent the last few months camped out at Yolanda’s idyllic Pennsylvania farm – but the mother-to-be has good reason to look forward to returning to Manhattan: namely, her freshly renovated apartment. Hadid revealed on Instagram on 25 July that she spent the bulk of 2019 “designing and curating” the two-bedroom space in the NoHo neighbourhood with a little help from “some of her favourite creatives” – including her mother, the “greatest homemaking-sounding-board I could ask for (she called me crazy when required)”.
Fittingly, the 25-year-old selected pieces from a number of fashion designers’ home ranges for her pad, with Missoni’s Mah Jong couch taking pride of place in the living room, topped with throw pillows by Jean-Paul Gaultier. Meanwhile, bright, geometric canvases by LA-based artist Austyn Weiner – who co-designed Each x Other’s spring/summer 2020 collection – adorn the walls, along with Eamon Harrington’s declarative paintings. “Welcome, all ages, all colors, all sizes, all cultures, all genders, all beliefs, all religions, all types, all people, safe here,” reads one piece of hallway art.
It’s the quirky details, however, that make the two-bedroom space the model’s own. Hadid tapped Linda Miller Nicholson, the founder of Salty Seattle, to make coloured penne, fusilli, and linguine to sit behind glass plates in her kitchen cabinet doors. Then there are the ample knick-knacks: a rose quartz heart set on top of old copies of Andy Warhol’s Interview; cheerful bedside table lamps hand-made on Orcas Island off the coast of Washington State; a pair of vintage skis and a red cashmere throw in a bucket by the fireplace…
Perhaps most envy-inducing of all? Hadid’s bathroom. In addition to a cloakroom area filled with Byredo candles and practically wallpapered with New Yorker covers, the apartment boasts a vast marble hamman-style area – complete with standalone bathtub, rainfall shower, and floor-to-ceiling glass shelves filled with perfumes, skincare products, and even more crystals. And just off the bathroom: a full salon and dressing area, with lighted mirrors and a fantasy accessories closet worthy of Cher Horowitz. Welcome home, Gigi.
