#1 Lady Gaga 10年後再度稱霸MTV 音樂大獎
在2010年的MTV 音樂大獎，當年 Lady Gaga 不僅在13項提名中橫掃8項大獎，更身穿轟動一時的牛肉服裝現身頒獎典禮現場。那一瞬間在音樂歷史刻下最難忘經典天后形象及地位。
而10年後的今日，憑著 《Rain on Me》與拍檔 Ariana Grande 獲得9項提名，成為最多提名的歌手，再次打破紀錄。
#2 再次加入「最佳另類音樂」
自從1998年以來，MTV 音樂大獎首次加入「最佳另類音樂」，同時還有「最佳搖滾樂」的獎項。當時最佳搖滾樂的提名人選共有6個，他們首次推出的專輯必須至少在15年前，而同時獲得「最佳另類音樂」的提名歌手則需要至少10年前發出第一個專輯：1975年的《If You’re Too Shy (Let Me Know)》和 Twenty One Pilots 的《Level of Concern》，都在2019年獲得最佳搖滾樂。
#3 第一次推出有關新冠肺炎的獎項類別
今年新冠肺炎的危機確實為音樂界帶了很多負面的影響，而這場危機迫使人們之間需要進行社交隔離，導致大量的現場表演需要留在歌手家中拍攝。因此今年MTV 音樂大獎則加入「最佳在家製作音樂短片」和「最佳隔離表演」。
