On a night when celebrities are trying to outdo one another at the Met Gala for the campiest, meme-iest looks, Kanye West went in a completely opposite direction. Arriving with Kim Kardashian who wore a bronze-gold custom Thierry Mugler dress, West opted for an extremely casual ensemble. The rapper wore a simple black Dickies zip-up jacket known as “The Eisenhower Jacket,” modeled after a World War II style. Further honing in on the utilitarian trend, Kanye paired the jacket with black pants and worker boots.
It isn’t the first time that Kanye has taken the pared-back route on the red carpet. In 2016 for the “Manus x Machina: Fashion in An Age of Technology” gala, Kanye paired his glitzy Balmain jacket with shredded jeans. As for his choice this time? West’s rejection of the theme was equally ironic and accessible: You can buy his red carpet jacket for under $50 US dollars.
