Art and design lovers rejoice! To promote sustainability and innovation for its 45th anniversary, Henderson Land Group will unveil its Henderson Land x Rossana Orlandi: Waste Is Value exhibition at the Oval Atrium at ifc mall on Sunday. The event will mark Orlandi’s first exhibition in Asia.
From July 11 to 28, audiences can experience this curated journey and take the time to marvel at 45 unique art and design pieces from all over the globe – including a one-of-a-kind chair that’s made from recycled cartons of VOGUE Hong Kong x ELIX Water.
The monumental furniture piece, which is named CrazyChildren Chair and weighs approximately 300 kg, is designed by Hong Kong artist Michael Lau who’s known in the industry as the “Godfather of Designer Toy Figures”.
During the chair-making process, the water cartons were first remade into a component of a hard particle board and then moulded into a recyclable work of art. Afterward, the unique piece was finished off with acrylic tape to resemble the look and feel of a delivery cardboard box – it’s a reference to Lau’s sci-fiction CrazyChildren series of which cardboard boxes are the main component.
The Waste Is Value exhibition only features art and design pieces that have been created with recycled, reused and upcycled materials. Highlights at the venue included a vase made from recycled silicone by Alessandro Ciffo and Precious Plastic’s multicoloured brick wall, made from 100% recycled plastic. Visitors can learn more about the creations at the exhibit by scanning the QR codes.
Rossana Orlandi, international design gallerist and founder of project RoGUILTLESSPLASTIC, has carefully curated each piece to increase awareness on how to eliminate waste.
“Plastic is not the problem; in our daily lives, there are plastics everywhere,” says Orlandi. “However, we need to change the way we treat it. There are wiser and more innovative ways to re-use plastic, such as smart designs. It’s also the core message of this exhibition, waste is not waste until we waste it.”
The Henderson Land x Rossana Orlandi: Waste Is Value exhibition is on from July 11 to 28, 2021 at Oval Atrium, Podium Level 1, ifc mall, Central.
