Lila Moss has undoubtedly inherited her mother’s fashion genes, from her doe-eyed charm and sweet, innocent girlishness to a killer runway walk. Growing up with luxury brands and with access to her mother’s incredible closet filled with vintage treasures, Lila’s taste is inevitably superb. But Lila’s mark in the fashion industry spans beyond this, and reflects her serious attitude towards work and life. Although born into the limelight, Lila continued to complete her education and made her modelling debut as an adult. While most may be quick to think she is simply following in her mothers footsteps, Lila is very much carving a path of her own. We spoke to the rising star on her style, her inspirations and how she feels about the fashion industry.
You’ve already worked with some of the world’s leading creative talents. Who are you yet to collaborate with that you’d like to?
There’s so many amazing talents out there that I’d be honoured to work with but one person I’d especially love to work with is Gray Sorrenti. As a powerful woman taking such gorgeous photos, she’d definitely be one.
What’s the most memorable piece of advice you’ve been given in the industry?
My mum always tells me to be hard working with whatever I’m doing.
What do you do to relax and get headspace?
I love having a bath or reading to escape being busy with work. I also really like to write to clear my head; just writing about my day.
What items will forever be found in your wardrobe?
I think classic blue jeans and a leather jacket will always be found in my wardrobe. They’re definitely my essentials.
Do you have a most treasured item passed down from your mother, Kate Moss?
She’s passed down some amazing dresses I’ve worn for a few years now. One that’s probably my favourite is a little Alexander McQueen mini dress. And there’s also an amazing John Galliano dress that I love.
You shared the runway with your mother for the first time earlier this year. How did that feel?
It was a really special moment. At the time, I was quite overwhelmed but looking back it was really exciting to be there with her walking behind me.In the moment, I didn’t realise that she was actually right there behind me, but it was amazing to see the pictures and video of that afterwards.
How do you feel that the modelling industry has evolved since your mother was your age? How has inclusivity and body positivity played a part in that?
I think it’s definitely changed a huge amount, with so much more body positivity and inclusivity. There’s much more consideration for everyone working in the industry and it’s great to see more diversity.
Who or what inspires you creatively? Are there any particular eras you look back to?
I get inspired by everything around me; my surroundings. Currently I’m really inspired by the seventies – I’ve had a few seventies themed parties
going on. I’ve realised that, subconsciously, I’ve been wearing a lot more seventies-inspired clothing – lots of flares, and platform shoes – and I’ve been listening to a lot of seventies music.
What was the last beauty item or ritual added to your regime?
I’ve been using one of those sculpting tools to massage my face. It’s meant to be so good for you, depuffing and stimulating blood flow. I find it quite
relaxing to do in the morning, and, if it’s been in the freezer, it’s so refreshing.
What does style mean to you? And which designers do you particularly look to for capturing it?
Style to me is conveying an impression of your mood or providing a essence of your character through clothes. I love Anthony Vaccarello for Saint Laurent – I’m always stealing my mum’s shirts by him, and whenever I go to the store, I want to buy everything!
