Are luxurious hotel rooms no longer satisfying your wanderlust? While Hong Kong’s grand shopping malls, exquisite fine dining and staycation experiences make for lavish R&R, being surrounded by towering skyscrapers and bright lights 24/7 can still take a toll. Caught up in the fast pace of city life, it can be easy to forget that lush greenery and sparkling waters are only a minibus or a ferry ride away.

As we welcome cooler autumn days, now is the perfect time to explore Hong Kong’s backyard — and what better way to do so than going glamping? From the good old camping caravan to sleek geodesic domes, here are some of the best glamping sites to visit for a glamorous night in the midst of Hong Kong’s prolific natural landscapes.

Sai Yuen Camping and Adventure Park

Think glass igloos in Finland, but perched on the western tip of Cheung Chau Island. Known for their transparent dome-shaped tents crafted from triangular panels, Sai Yuen Camping and Adventure Park offers its glampers a range of unique accommodations alongside thrilling outdoor activities from bubble soccer to tree top canopy walking. For sunset chasers, the luxurious Sunset Visa is located on a nearly 3,000 sq ft lawn overlooking the coast of Lantau Island, offering its guests an unobstructed view of breathtaking Po Yue Wan sunsets. For night owls, lie under the stars in the air-conditioned comfort of the camp site’s Geodesic Domes, specially designed for stargazing.

Calling all water sports lovers! Long Coast Sea Sports offers a Play’n’Stay package that offers equipment rental for surfers, wakeboarders and kayakers alike, followed by a cosy safari tent or caravan stay equipped with deluxe camping mattresses and shower facilities. Located at Lower Cheung Sha Village, the water sports centre and beach resort sees one of Hong Kong’s longest beaches as its front yard, stretching over 3.2 kilometres along Lantau’s beautiful south shore. After a long active day in the water, glampers have the choice of upgrading their package for a much-needed BBQ dinner, which sees a range of appetisers, meats and seafood items complete with cooking essentials including charcoal, tongs and disposable cutlery.

JK Club

Nestled between Hong Kong’s second highest mountain and Pui O beach is the private drive of caravan camping site JK Club. With four sizes of caravans fitting up to 6 available, equipped with air conditioning, power sockets and bluetooth sound systems, JK Club is an ideal weekend getaway for couples and families alike. Its proximity to the Lantau Peak and Chi Ma Wan trail makes it the perfect spot for hikers and mountain bikers to end their day. Meanwhile, families with young children can find their fun picking strawberries fresh from JK Club’s very own organic farm or petting animals at their goat playground.

Galaxy Garden

Experience life in a bubble (quite literally) at Galaxy Garden. Originally created by French designer Pierre Stephane Dumas, Galaxy Garden’s bubble tents have been adapted to include a silent ventilation and air conditioning system for the ultimate camping experience in Hong Kong’s typically hot and humid climate. Inflated by a special turbine, the bubbles are virtually roofless, providing its glampers panoramic views of Lantau Island’s stunning mountains by day, and sparkling skies by night.

Park Nature

Looking to go glamping with your furry friends? Head to Park Nature! Their fully equipped pet-friendly caravans come with a private barbecue area, where campers can grill up a feast to enjoy with family and friends. Alternatively, you can also book a stay at one of their Party Rooms equipped with mahjong machines to enjoy a laid back night in nature, classic Hong Kong-style.
