With the Lunar New Year just around the corner, we’ve rounded up the best limited-edition fashion collaborations which pay homage to the auspicious season. The Year of the Ox will commence this February 12th, with New Year festivities overlapping with Valentine’s Day for even more reason to dress up and celebrate. Even though we will be social distancing and spending the majority of our Lunar New Year holidays at home, there’s no excuse not to brush up for the occasion, especially with such a delightful selection of outfits and accessories to pick from – ranging from Fendi‘s delicate blush-themed collection, to Gucci’s collaboration with Japanese manga character, Doraemon and Moschino’s cartoon ox.
Balenciaga
Balenciaga celebrates Chinese New Year with a line of ready-to-wear apparel and accessories featuring an all-over logo print in black and white with the Chinese character for ox. An adorable illustration of a baby ox also appears on various pieces throughout the collection.
Burberry
Burberry’s Chinese New Year capsule collection products range from a baseball cap sporting the house’s signature checks to clothes in lucky red hues. The Year of the Ox symbol has also been incorporated into an updated version of the brand’s Thomas Burberry logo.
Chloé
Chloé’s Chinese New Year collection reflects the French house’s sophisticated and feminine aesthetic. The line is made up of printed tops and accessories embellished with chic Year of the Ox pins. Look out for revamped versions of Chloé’s Daria Mini and Drew handbags panelled in denim and red leather.
Fendi
Fendi’s Year of the Ox-themed collection is comprised of an elegant assortment of jewellery and accessories, with a particularly covetable baguette bag featuring the maison’s signature FF monogram in dreamy shades of pink and red. Traditional Chinese flower motifs, such as the Chrysanthemum and Peony, have also been incorporated into the designs.
Gucci
To mark this year’s Lunar New Year, Gucci has released a playful capsule collection featuring Japanese manga and anime character, Doraemon. Fans who enjoyed watching the animated series in the ’80s and ’90s, can shop a variety of Doraemon X Gucci pieces spanning from t-shirts to tote bags. Gucci will release an exclusive Year of the Ox version of Doraemon later this month.
Moschino
Moschino’s limited-edition Chinese New Year collection is made up of everyday pieces in bright red and white colour ways. Each item is adorned with a symbol of a cartoon ox and a ‘Moschino Couture – In Love We trust’ logo.
Shanghai Tang
Some of the contemporary styles in Shanghai Tang’s Lunar New Year collection include a floral qipao featuring the Chinese Herbaceous Peony and a silk crepe jacket that can double up as a button-up shirt. The knot detail on Shanghai Tang’s Braid Knot clutch is said to bring good luck.
Valentino Garavani
Valentino Garavani’s Chinese New Year collection, entitled Pieces of Joy. A Roman Stud Special Selection features everyday accessories in beautiful pink, gold and red hues. Each piece is embellished with the house’s iconic metallic Roman stud.
