David Zwirner 

Expect a kaleidoscope of artwork at David Zwirner’s Art Basel booth where young artists such as Oscar Murillo, Marcel Dzama and more will be spotlighted alongside prominent pieces by the likes of R. Crumb, Stan Douglas, Dan Flavin and Raymond Pettibon. Aside from their physical presence at the fair, David Zwirner is also kicking off a new episode of their WeChat Mini Program Online Viewing Room, a digital viewing space tailored to Chinese-speaking audiences featuring works by Katherine Bernhardt, Nate Lowman, and Lisa Yuskavage, up-and-coming artists from the gallery’s program who will also show at Art Basel.

Hauser & Wirth 

Modernity will meet history at Hauser & Wirth’s Art Basel booth this year, which is slated to bring together pieces by contemporary artists such as George Condo, Camille Henrot, Pierre Huyghe and Roni Horn and historical masterpieces by the likes of Louise Bourgeois, whose “Untitled (No. 6)” will be shown among a selection of her paintings and bronze and marble sculptures. The presentation will also include a new bronze sculpture by William Kentridge, who is currently hosting his first solo exhibition in Hong Kong, on view at Hauser & Wirth until May 29.

Lehmann Maupin 

Lehmann Maupin returns to Art Basel after the new expansion of their Seoul gallery, which sees a programmatic focus that Lehamnn Maupin will bring with them to the Hong Kong art fair. A creative dialogue between artists McArthur Binion, Tom Friedman, Catherine Opie, Alex Prager, and Lari Pittman, among others will be presented through drawing conceptual and material connections between their work.

“Where The Heart Is”, Ora-Ora 

Hong Kong-based gallery Ora-Ora is showing a variety of artists at their booth at Art Basel 2022, namely Huang Dan, Peng Jian, Juri Markkula, Mai Miyake, Stephen Thorpe and Xiao Xu. Through their works informed by different cultures and life experiences, Ora-Ora explores solitude as a pathway to communion and refuge in illustrating the construct of home, which is, as the exhibit title aptly suggests, “Where The Heart Is”. </span

The Shape of Light, M+ Facade 

Co-commissioned with Art Basel, the M+ Museum will debut “The Shape of Light” by Hong Kong artist Ellen Pau on the building’s LED exterior M+ Facade. The specially designed moving image work features The Heart Sutra, a popular sutra in Mahayana Buddhism, which will be expressed through sign language to explore the ideas of materialism and immateriality.

URLANDSCHAFT, Woaw Gallery Central

Japanese multidisciplinary artist En Iwamura is making his solo debut in Asia with Woaw Gallery, where he will be presenting his ceramic sculpture series “Neo Jomon: Beans”, fanciful, dynamic round forms with cartoonish expressions that evoke childlike innocence, a deliberate contrast to the state of confusion and chaos that we currently experience in our world. Titled URLANDSCHAFT, which translates to “primaeval landscape” in English, the exhibition is an exploration of the primitive human heart and our mental landscape.

Reverie: Landscapes by André Brasilier, Opera Gallery

Lose yourself in the reverie of André Brasilier’s dynamic, lyrical brushstrokes at Opera Gallery. In partnership with Le French May Arts Festival, Reverie: Landscapes by André Brasilier celebrates the prolific creative career of the French artist through a series of 20 works which transport you into French nature.

The Loss of the Human Face, Villepin

From Rembrandt to Van Gogh, portraiture – different representations of the human face – has always held up a mirror to the world. At Villepin, “The Loss of Human Face?” will again see the human face used as a canvas by the likes of master portrait painter Francis Bacon and contemporary artists Adrian Ghenie, Zeng Fanzhi, George Condo, and Yukimasa Ida, onto which they paint their honest observations of humanity as they navigate what it means to be human in a time defined by confusion, rage and ambition.
