Gucci
Gucci is interweaving the old with the new this Chinese New Year. The collection is based around an archival tiger design from the late 1960s by illustrator Vittorio Accornero, the creator of Gucci’s signature Flora motif. The Maison’s Year of the Tiger collection sees Vittorio’s tiger prancing in a pastel jungle, the print adorning silk shirts, wallets and even the brand’s iconic Jackie silhouette. The other half of the collection features a bold red “Gucci Tiger” text in a typeface reminiscent of collegiate varsity logos, lending the collection a retro flair.
Balenciaga
Look fierce in Balenciaga’s Chinese New Year collection, which reimagines iconic house best-sellers such as the Hourglass handbag and the Triple S sneakers in vibrant orange hues and bold tiger stripes. For the brand’s loyal streetwear lovers, the limited-edition capsule also offers plain-coloured t-shirts, caps and backpacks printed with a new tiger motif incorporated into the house logo, perfect for creating practical and minimal looks with edge.
Dior
2022 is the year of the Water Tiger — and Kim Jones understood the assignment. In collaboration with American artist Kenny Scharf, Dior’s Chinese New Year capsule features a new tiger motif in a mix of navy, cobalt and powdery blue as a nod to the Chinese element of water. Red iterations are also available for those who want to get into the full festival spirit.
Saint Laurent
The Pink Panther shows his stripes in Saint Laurent’s Year of the Tiger collection! On the brand’s limited-edition hoodie and keychain, the beloved cartoon character shed his iconic pink coat to become an orange tiger for the season. Earthy browns and blacks paint the rest of the collection, with special items crafted from linens and silks printed with hyper-realistic imagery of the jungle cat.
Prada
Instead of opting for tiger stripes and tangerine oranges, Prada has painted their Chinese New Year Collection with blooming florals against a palette of contrasting red and black. Under the lens of Liu Song, Chinese actress Chun Xia and actor-singer Li Yifeng model the collection’s winter essentials and athleisure-wear inspired by skisports as part of the maison’s campaign. Prada will also take part in the “Action in the Year of the Tiger” initiative, contributing to the conservation of endangered Amur Tigers by donating to China Green Foundation’s Walking with Tiger and Leopard Program.
Loro Piana
Celebrate the Year of the Tiger while cozying up in luxurious knits from Loro Piana. The brand has released a playful collection of soft silhouettes adorned with the jungle cat, from flowing statement capes to their signature Baby Cashmere. Also look towards their Sesia bag and other accessories painted in a fierce red for an auspicious new year.
