Yayoi Kusama: 1945 to Now, M+

See the world through the dotted, vibrant lens of Yayoi Kusama at M+. In celebration of the renowned Japanese artist’s unique avant-garde vision, in conjunction with the museum’s first anniversary, M+ unveils the largest retrospective on Kusama in Asia for its first-ever special exhibition. Displayed chronologically from 1945 to the present, over 200 pieces of Kusama’s works are curated into six themes: Infinity, Accumulation, Radical Connectivity, Biocosmic, Death, and Force of Life. Each of these themes explores a different stage of Kusama’s life, from preserving as an under-recognised artist and battling her mental illness to becoming the global cultural icon we know and love today.

Marie de Villepin: Murmuration, Villepin

Marie de Villepin makes her Hong Kong debut with Murmuration! Having spent her most formative years across the US, India and Paris, Marie draws inspiration from her personal experiences as both a budding artist and passionate musician around the globe to explore notions of change and survival in our restless, postmodern world. The word “Murmuration” describes the enchanting movement, and continuous roaring sound created by flocking. And as this title suggests, Marie’s solo exhibition is a nuanced expression of her own multifaceted movement – between cities, countries and cultures – through a cacophony of colours and shapes.

American contemporary artist Andy Rementer brings his colourful characters to Hong Kong! His first solo exhibition in the city invites the audience to interact with the characters in his paintings to develop a relationship that involves “seeing” and “being seen”, a concept that echoes the title of his show “In Plain Sight”. Rementer explains, “My figures often become sort of characters on stage, in direct contact with the viewers, almost like a ballet performance where dancers are always facing the audience.” The exhibition also features 3 sculptures co-produced by WAY by Way of Difference and How2Work that bring Rementer’s characters to life.
