As the biggest night in fashion draws near, speculation is mounting around what riveting looks will make an appearance on the famous Met steps. This year’s Met Gala will pay tribute to the late Karl Lagerfeld through the event’s dress code, “in honor of Karl,” complimenting the Costume Institute exhibition Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty, which will trace the career and life of the visionary designer.

Given Lagerfeld’s expansive archives across the many luxury Maisons he has helmed over the years, there’s no doubt we will witness some breathtaking couture looks on the red carpet, notably the Chanel 2019 haute couture collection, which marked the late designer’s final couture offering.

Lagerfeld’s last couture pieces were immortalised on Vogue Hong Kong’s inaugural triple cover starring models Gigi Hadid and Fei Fei Sun. Sun slipped into a strapless pink frock and a voluminous dress embroidered with delicate florals, while Hadid wore a sculptural sky-blue gown embellished with blooms in every shade. Hadid also rocked the collection’s closing bridal look for her solo cover — a sequinned swimsuit complete with a glittering cap and veil.
