Legendary supermodel Jourdan Dunn burst onto the scene as a bright-eyed 15-year-old, fast becoming one of the most sought-after models in the global fashion industry. Over the course of an extensive 18-year-long career, she has boldly challenged the norms of fashion, continuously breaking boundaries through her sheer talent and determination. It is this remarkable courage and resilience that have forged her remarkable legacy.
Now, Dunn’s son Riley is also 15. Working in the fast-paced world of fashion as a mother is no easy feat, but the British icon knows the importance of a rich and fulfilling life, constantly striving to find harmony between her career, family, and personal wellness. Whether strutting down catwalks and fronting international campaigns, or cooking up a storm for her loved ones at home, Dunn embraces every facet of her life with grace and enthusiasm.
Have you ever been to Hong Kong? What is something you’re looking forward to when you visit
This will be my first time in Hong Kong and I’m extremely excited— especially to indulge in the food! I can’t wait to try roast goose and authentic claypot rice.
You’ve been booked and busy for over 18 years now. What are some of your fondest modelling memories that you can share with us?
Still being able to actively work as a model for this long in my career is truly a blessing. I still get excited about shoots and that’s why I’m still doing it. (laughs) I would say all the covers that I’ve blessed this year have been my highlight. It’s still an honour for me to be chosen as a cover star for a magazine. So thank you Vogue Hong Kong!
Has being in your line of work changed your views on beauty and confidence?
Definitely! Being in this industry has shifted my perspective on beauty. I used to have all these insecurities, you know, the usual stuff. But being surrounded by so many different types of beauty, seeing how diverse and amazing it all is, it really opened my eyes. Now I’m all about embracing my natural features and feeling confident in my own skin. It’s not just about looking good, it’s about feeling good too.
Cooking has long been a passion of yours. What kickstarted your interest in it and what inspired you to share it with others? What’s your favourite comfort meal to cook for you and your family?
I’ve always been fascinated by the alchemy of food. You would always find me in the kitchen with my gran, watching her put all these fresh ingredients together to make a delicious meal. Cooking and feeding my family is my love language and my favourite thing to cook for them is a Sunday dinner. It just reminds me of my grandma so I instantly feel connected to her whenever I’m prepping Sunday dinner on a Saturday night.
Your son Riley is entering his teenage years. What’s the biggest lesson being a mother has taught you?
With Riley being a teen now, I’m reminded that my role as his mother is to support him in every stage. I feel teenagers get such a bad rep and we’re forgetting how much is going on with them internally and around them, so I make sure that I have compassion and understanding, but also boundaries. My boundaries needs to be respected just as much as his.
