On December 3, 2024, CHANEL will unveil its highly anticipated 2024/25 Métiers d’art collection in Hangzhou, China, against the breathtaking backdrop of the legendary West Lake. This iconic location, steeped in history and beauty, serves as a fitting stage for a collection that celebrates the artistry and craftsmanship central to CHANEL’s legacy.
West Lake, with its poetic allure and cultural significance, holds a special connection to CHANEL. It is famously depicted on the large 19th-century Coromandel lacquered screen that graced the study of Gabrielle Chanel’s apartment at 31 rue Cambon in Paris. These screens, rich in detail and symbolism, were a profound source of inspiration for the couturière, fueling her dreams and creative vision.
Ahead of the show, director Wim Wenders has created a short film that captures the essence of the Métiers d’art collection and its sources of inspiration. Shot between Paris and Hangzhou, the film stars CHANEL ambassador Tilda Swinton, whose ethereal presence perfectly embodies the Maison’s timeless allure. The film invites viewers on a journey – real and imaginary – through the enchanting landscapes of West Lake and the world of CHANEL, blending past and present in a seamless narrative.
The full short film will be released on November 30, 2024. The CHANEL 2024/25 Métiers d’art Show will be unveiled on December 3, 2024 at 2pm Paris time on the CHANEL platform.
