Of all of the supermodels and icons he’s met, no muse has captured Karl Lagerfeld’s heart quite like Choupette, his cat who has two maids and only eats at the table, with Goyard and Louis Vuitton crockery. Choupette was gifted to Lagerfeld around Christmas time in 2011 and remained the German fashion designer’s supreme love until his untimely death in 2019. Choupette subsequently became one of the heirs of the Karl Lagerfeld estate. Now, the lavish Birman cat has a new book dedicated to her, entitled Choupette by Karl Lagerfeld — a collection of iPhone photos which Lagerfeld took daily of his beloved pet, personally chosen and sequenced by the legendary creative.

Launched on 30 November, the book gives an intimate and playful insight into Choupette’s precious world. We see her in a variety of indulgent poses: perched on a pile of books, curled up in the bathroom sink, enjoying the high life on a private plane, and, of course, admiring her reflection in the mirror. “Choupette has an attitude like a princess… she knows exactly what she wants,” Lagerfeld once said.

“You know, personally, I don’t even think I’m that famous. Now, Choupette really is famous. She has become the most famous cat in the world. I even get propositioned by pet food companies and things like that, but it’s out of the question. I’m commercial. She’s not. She’s spoiled to death. Obviously.” – Karl Lagerfeld.
