Fashion: Solid & Striped It’s beginning to feel decidedly spring-like and that’s got my attention turned to holiday season and the swimwear brands to stock up on. One of my favourite looks this season comes from New York-based swim brand Solid & Striped. The Resort 2019 Nina swimsuit has a simple, elegant shape - square neck and scoop back - with a vintage-inspired white belt and retro stripes. Travel: Rosewood Hong Kong Last week saw the anticipated opening of Rosewood Hong Kong, where, the same week, we celebrated the launch of Vogue Hong Kong. Located on Kowloon’s Victoria Dockside, the Kohn Pedersen Fox-designed, 65-storey hotel has ensured that 80 percent of its rooms overlook Hong Kong’s sweeping skyline - as does the hotel’s Legacy House restaurant and DarkSide bar and terrace where we plan on heading back to this week. Inside, hospitality designer Tony Chi has created an homage to Rosewood’s origins as an aristocratic manor, with large, open spaces showcasing oak marquetry ceilings and impressive artwork, including a life-sized sculpture of an elephant by contemporary Indian artist Bharti Kerr in the lobby. rosewoodhotels.com
Art: Art Basel Hong Kong Art Basel Hong Kong kicks off this week, with curators, artists and collectors from all over the world gathering at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre. Here, there'll be 242 of the world's most prestigious galleries popping up, as well as special exhibits and screenings, and large-scale artistic installations on this year's theme of ‘Still We Rise,’ referring to Maya Angelou’s poem 'Still I Rise'. Shop: New Cassina showroom in Central World-famous product designer Patricia Urquiola was in town recently to inaugurate the opening of Cassina’s first showroom in the city. Located on Central’s Lyndhurst Street, the two-storey space showcases the Italian furniture label’s greatest design hits, and is a treasure trove of interior design inspiration for aspiring homemakers. Pop by if you’re in the neighbourhood to recuperate from the city’s cacophony between the soft leather folds of the shape-shifting Maralunga sofa.
Home: Le Passe Trame x Monocle wool blanket Monocle magazine have launched a "Capsule Française” collection that coincides with their focus on France this month. Included in the collection is an ethically-sourced Solognote lambswool blanket commissioned to French woolmakers Le Passe Trame.
Watch: Dear Ex I finally got around to watching this highly-acclaimed Taiwanese indie film that landed on Netflix recently, and really enjoyed the emotional depth that its unconventional plot was able to convey. Essentially, a father dies of cancer after leaving his family (and a sizeable insurance payout) for his gay lover, Jay (played by Roy Chiu). When the wife (Hsieh Ying-hsuan) demands he return the payout, her son (Joseph Huang) unwittingly attaches himself to Jay. What ensues is an intimate look at the achingly painful circumstances that have brought them together, although there is no lack of comic relief either. A great option to watch if you’re bored of the usual Netflix crime dramas.
