Vogue is never only a magazine – it’s a showcase for the fashion and culture of whichever region it represents. On March 19, the 25th international edition, Vogue Hong Kong, formally turned a new leaf in this city’s history.
In celebration of this milestone, Vogue invited the city’s fashionistas, film stars and brightest creative minds to gather at the brand-new Rosewood Hong Kong on the Victoria Harbourfront, where the theme of the night was ‘Culture through the lens of fashion.’ The dress code was simple yet declarative – Come in Vogue – to which the likes of Rosamund Kwan, Donnie Yen and wife Cissy Wang, Karen Mok, and thespian sisters Kathy and Niki Chow rose to the occasion in an imaginative showing of style.
The guest of honour was none other than the Chief Executive of Hong Kong, Carrie Lam, who officiated the opening ceremony with remarks on the fecund environment that Hong Kong’s unique mixture of East and West, tradition and modernity provide for creative expression, while conveying her hopes for the magazine’s potential as a conduit for Hong Kong culture to the rest of the world.
Guests had the opportunity to view some amazing vintage pieces from Vestiaire Collective, get a customised iPhone case by Casetify and try on some cool shades by Revé by René. Former Girls Generation star Hyoeyeon spun the decks that evening, followed by Hong Kong-born DJ Carta.
Paying tribute to Hong Kong, the canapés served consisted of traditional egg waffles, prawn toast, stir fried noodles and wagyu beef steamed buns. Innovative cocktails such as the Vogue Martini and rosé champagne flowed through the evening.
While the launch party was focused on the future, there were nods to the rich history of fashion that will inevitably inform the tone of the magazine going forward. Vestiaire Collective exhibited some of the most prized vintage pieces from its global community, while Iris Van Herpen showed off a handful of its highlights from collections past.
Meanwhile, the party’s beats were provided by ex-Girls’ Generation member Hyoyeon as well as chart-topper DJ Carta, accompanied by a laser show. Guests indulged on a number of Vogue-themed canapés and cocktails, as well as trying their hand at creating limited-edition embossed iPhone cases from Casetify and picking up a pair of cat-eye sunglasses custom-made by REVÉ by RENÉ for the event.
