Like a phoenix risen from the ashes of controversy and cancellation, the Golden Globe Awards return for their 81st edition on January 7, 2024—operating now under the auspices of Dick Clark Productions and Eldridge Industries, since the embattled Hollywood Foreign Press Association was shuttered in June 2023. (Come 2024, the Globes will also have a new network: CBS has signed on to air the ceremony for the first time, taking over from NBC.)
On Monday morning, actors Cedric the Entertainer and Wilmer Valderrama were on hand at the Beverly Hilton hotel to announce the 2024 Golden Globe nominees, including those in two new categories: cinematic and box office achievement in motion pictures and best performance in stand-up comedy on television. So, how did your favorite shows and movies fare? Here’s a hint: Barbie and Oppenheimer led the film field, with nine and eight nods, respectively, while Succession (nine nominations), The Bear (five), and Only Murders in the Building(five) were the most-recognized series.
