Flabjacks WELCOME HOME by Ton Mak, Gallery by the Harbour
Be transported into the whimsical, fun-loving world of Flabjacks with Ton Mak’s first solo exhibition in the city! With the help of William Chan Design, Gallery by the Harbour has been transformed into a vibrant Flabjacks paradise with sunny yellow walls, a 4 metre-tall pink dinosaur sculpture, and a series of artworks that explore the notion of home beyond an address. The artist has introduced two new meaningful characters to her universe of cheerful, chubby creatures; the dinosaur is a product of her pregnant musings, while the tiger symbolises her infant son. Both make their debut with this new exhibition. Flabjacks WELCOME HOME also arrives with exclusive merchandise — a tote bag, an art toy, and a printed blanket for those who want to brighten up their homes.

We Just Got To See Us by Auudi Dorsey, Woaw Gallery
American artist Auudi Dorsey marks his first solo exhibition in Asia with We Just Got To See Us. A New Orleans native himself, Dorsey lends us his perspective of life in America’s Southern Black community through his latest series of acrylic paintings. Everyday scenes of men playing cards or chatting in between puffs of cigarettes are drawn from the artist’s own memory, bringing light to the significant role that community plays in moulding the experiences of Black Americans.

Dummy doll jealous eye ditto pikachu beefy mimikyu rough play Galarian rapid dash libra horn HP 270 Vmax full art by Katherine Bernhardt, David Zwirner
Gaze up at lovable larger-than-life-sized Pokémon at Katherine Bernhardt’s latest exhibition with David Zwirner. Having been introduced by her young son to the exhilarating world of monsters that have captured the hearts of people since its creation in 1996, Bernhardt’s latest paintings are vivid recreations of Pokémon trading cards. In one piece, a dazed Mimikyu V stands idly by as splotches of pink and purple swirl in the background, unknowingly protected by its very own ‘Dummy Doll’ ability. In another, Bernhardt reimagines a rare Japan exclusive card, where a Charizard poncho-wearing Pikachu glows with traces of neon pink.

Space Rich by Ernest Chang, The Stallery
The Stallery has extended their immersive Space Rich exhibition until late August. With Space Rich, artist Ernest Chang invites us to contemplate on the possibility of true escapism in a society ruled by a consumerist appetite. Recognisable figures of pop culture such as Sailor Moon or Rick and Morty’s Morty become extraterrestrial explorers who struggle to run from the omnipresence of social media and large, influential corporations.
Transformed into a cosmic cave for the art show, the gallery is also introducing exciting opportunities to experience Chang’s artworks in a new light. The first 30 guests to arrive in costume after 8pm on 17 June will receive a gift of limited edition merchandise including a ‘The Stallery HKG’ tote bag, a ‘Son of Man’ artwork pin, and a ‘Space Rich’ t-shirt. The artist is also hosting free public silkscreen workshops for two consecutive days on July 22 and 23 where participants will be able to take home their own versions of Chang’s ‘The Child of Space’ print.
