Cara Delevingne is adding to her acting credentials in Amazon Prime’s forthcoming neo-noir television drama, Carnival Row, in which she stars alongside Orlando Bloom. Set in a Victorian fantasy world – where mythological creatures are “forbidden to live, love, or fly with freedom” as they struggle to coexist with humans – the original series will premiere this summer on the streaming platform.
In the ominous first look at the supernatural drama, the model turned actor is shown as refugee fairy Vignette Stonemoss – whose homeland was “invaded by empires of man” – standing back to back on a dilapidated cobblestoned street with Bloom as human detective Rycroft Philostrate, who is investigating a string of murders which threatens the city’s precarious peace. “There is a rift in the city,” Delevingne’s winged character narrates. “We must all come together.”
The pair rekindles a “dangerous affair, despite an increasingly intolerant society”, reads the series’s synopsis. “Vignette harbours a secret that endangers Philo’s standing during his most important case yet… As Philo investigates, he reveals a monster no one could imagine.”
Slated for release on August 30, the eight-parter from Rene Echevarria, Travis Beacham and Legendary Television isn’t Delevingne’s only screen release of the year. She will also star alongside Jaden Smith, Nia Long and Cuba Gooding Jr. in Life In A Year, a film following a 17-year-old who sets out to give his terminally ill girlfriend an entire life in her final year.
