CHANEL, in collaboration with model, music producer, and brand ambassador Caroline de Maigret, took summer glamour to the next level with its “CHANEL Summer Tour”. After a triumphant stop in Bangkok, the event made its way to Hong Kong on July 10. Sheung Wan’s Sun Hing Street transformed into a stylish summer block party like no other. The event includes a vinyl shop, karaoke bar, quaint cafés nestled within historical buildings, as well as a retro beige-and-black vintage van adorned with the brand’s iconic double C logo. The “CHANEL Summer Tour” seamlessly blends music and fashion while paying homage to Hong Kong’s unique cultural heritage.
“What I love about Hong Kong is that you have a day experience and you have a night experience. It’s very vivid […] and the people are just so cool,” de Maigret shared. “The creative energy in Hong Kong is amazing. I think that the Summer Tour is about celebrating culture with fashion and music.”
The event featured a diverse lineup of music: hip-hop DJ, indie R&B artist Cehryl, UK pop singer-songwriter Griff, and hip-hop artist Dough-Boy. The blend of different music genres and styles reflects Hong Kong’s unique cultural charm and creativity. “There’s just something about it, an emulation of energy that’s so alive, so electric. That is why it just makes sense for us to come to a city as vibrant as Hong Kong,” de Maigret explains.
The model and music producer also shared more on her creative journey. “It’s interesting because I work in fashion and music and they inspire each other. Of course, we’ve seen this mutual influence throughout the history of music and fashion. For me, I have to say that Keith Richards from The Rolling Stones is a big inspiration for my style. I always think of him when I style myself. I’m like, what would he do with this jacket? Would he pair it with a lot of rings? Maybe some long necklaces?” The interaction between music and fashion builds personal identity and has produced countless classics. For de Maigret, Richards’ unique style is a perfect example of this synergy. “I always think of him because music is a language and fashion is a language. It’s a way for other people to understand who you are. Those little details will show, oh, she’s a rock chick.”
When asked about her favourite summer activity, de Maigret revealed she loves a “summer swim in the water”. “You guys are lucky, you live by the water. For us, there is something so alive about the water. There’s something that makes you feel okay when you look at the horizon. It puts everything down and you’re like, I’m okay. So I wait for summer all year long, just to enjoy this season of the sea.” de Maigret also shared her current favourite summer songs: Cehryl’s “dead knot” and “burn blister” from her newly released album willow tree. “They’re really cool,” she said.
Local stars Amy Lo, Suet-Ying Chung, Hanna Chan, and Natalie Hsu, along with singer-songwriters Gareth.T, Moon Tang and Kiri T, joined de Maigret for a star-studded outdoor concert at the event. Hong Kong-based street artist LOUSY also presented a live graffiti art performance for guests to enjoy. This fusion of music and fashion created a sophisticated and spirited atmosphere, capturing the essence of Hong Kong’s identity. Far more than just a summer soirée, the “CHANEL Summer Tour” is a celebration of the city’s cultural richness and creativity.
