There’s nothing more symbolic of Christmas than a verdant Christmas tree strung with glittering lights, polished baubles and tinsel (for some). But the limitations of our own homes mean that we must sacrifice our deepest desires for maximum Yuletide extravagance for the sake of practicality. After all, we do live in one of the world’s most densely packed vertical cities. So while our Christmas trees make do for those wholesome family gatherings, let’s turn to the city’s most exuberant festive displays for more holiday cheer.
ChristmasVille at Pacific Place
Charming cottages and friendly furry monsters have sprung up around Pacific Place as ChristmasVille comes to life! Pay a visit to the Grand Weaver knitting whiz and his shy fur-ball friends at Wollywood; unveil a sugary surprise with the ever bubbly Sprinkle at Sugarplum Mill; revel in the alluring scent of pine at Woody and Princess Pine’s Fir Cavern; peruse the adorable souvenirs at the gift shop; or pour your heart into a handmade monster-themed gift at the Crafty Lodge with Master Wrap—there’s a whole lot of festive fun to be had at ChristmasVille.

Dior dreams up a white (and gold) Christmas at their Ball of Dreams! This year, the luxury French fashion house has taken over the K11 Musea promenade transporting us to the Palace of Versailles with a wondrous 12-metre tall Christmas tree that nods to Louis XIV aka. the Sun King, and an enchanting fairytale carriage that glows from within. The opulent festive display has already taken Hong Kong’s holiday-goers by storm, and those looking for the perfect snapshot know it shines brightest at night.

The Big Little Christmas, Tatsuya Tanaka x Harbour City
Harbour City has tapped renowned Japanese miniature photographer and mitate artist Tatsuya Tanaka for his first-ever Christmas-themed project! Alongside a miniature art exhibition at Gallery by the Harbour, Tanaka presents his largest art installation to date along the Ocean Terminal Forecourt. A whimsical larger than life 28-metre-long Santa Claus working desk brims with festive wonder as five of Tanaka’s festive miniatures are blown up in size. Visitors are made to feel like tiny elven creatures meandering through a 5-metre-tall cabin-shaped stack of books, riding a sleigh made of candy canes and decorative baubles, or gazing up at Santa’s 10-metre-tall shimmering hat as though it were a Christmas tree.

Tucked away in the Tai Po Kau Nature Reserve lies the Lake House, a beautiful heritage building that’s been restored to preserve its European architecture. The house is perched on one end of the expansive Lake Egret, and this Christmas, the site has transformed into a festive pet-friendly paradise. Among the various glittering snow-themed installations that decorate the compound, the most endearing is perhaps the floating Christmas tree. Set atop a dock in the middle of Lake Egret, the twinkling 10-metre tree acts as the ultimate centrepiece. Guests can get a closer look via Santa Sleigh paddle boats which don Christmas lights of their own.

If there’s one place to revel in the magic of Christmas, it has to be the Happiest Place on Earth. Located on Main Street, USA, the magnificent Disneyland Christmas tree enjoys a picturesque backdrop of the Castle of Magical Dreams and a sparkling drone show up above. While the theme park itself boasts an impressive lineup of festive celebrations for the Yuletide season, including an exclusive range of delectable themed treats, the annual Wish-Come-True tree lighting ceremony is a must. The fan-favourite event occurs every evening, where one lucky guest is chosen to lead.
