There’s nothing more symbolic of Christmas than a verdant Christmas tree strung with glittering lights, polished baubles and tinsel (for some). But the limitations of our own homes mean that we must sacrifice our deepest desires for maximum Yuletide extravagance for the sake of practicality. After all, we do live in one of the world’s most densely packed vertical cities. So while our Christmas trees make do for those wholesome family gatherings, let’s turn to the city’s most exuberant festive displays for more holiday cheer.

Dior dreams up a white (and gold) Christmas at their Les Tuileries Royal Garden, Carousel of Dreams! This year, the luxury French fashion house has taken over the K11 Musea promenade with a wondrous 15-metre tall Christmas tree adorned with gleaming gilded motifs, and an enchanting carousel that pays tribute to the brand’s signature fragrance silhouettes with a host of Dior lucky stars. The opulent festive display has already taken Hong Kong’s holiday-goers by storm, and those looking for the perfect snapshot know it shines brightest at night.

Tucked away in the Tai Po Kau Nature Reserve lies the Lake House, a beautiful heritage building that’s been restored to preserve its European architecture. The house is perched on one end of the expansive Lake Egret, and this Christmas, the site has transformed into a festive pet-friendly paradise. Among the various Instagram-worthy themed installations that decorate the compound, the most endearing is perhaps the floating Christmas tree. Set atop a dock in the middle of the Lake Egret, the twinkling 10-metre tree acts as the ultimate centrepiece. Guests can get a closer look via Santa Sleigh paddle boats which don Christmas lights of their own.

Back for another year in the running is the colossal outdoor Christmas tree at the West Kowloon Art Park! The sparkling 20-metre tree serves as a colourful centrepiece to the Hong Kong WinterFest 2023 celebrations, which includes front-row seats to breathtaking pyrotechnic displays above the harbour, a Santa meet-and-greet at the Christmas lodge, various live performances, and other festive exhibits.

If there’s one place to revel in the magic of Christmas, it has to be the Happiest Place on Earth. Located on Main Street, USA, the magnificent Disneyland Christmas tree enjoys a picturesque backdrop of the Castle of Magical Dreams and a sparkling drone show up above. While the theme park itself boasts an impressive lineup of festive celebrations for the Yuletide season, including an exclusive range of delectable themed treats, the annual Wish-Come-True tree lighting ceremony is a must. The fan-favourite event occurs every evening, where one lucky guest is chosen to lead.

This year a regal Victorian glasshouse takes the place of a Christmas tree on the Grand Piazza’s nautical chart flooring at the 1881 Heritage, a site where luxury and history collides. Not quite the traditional festive display, 1881 Heritage’s installation is a floral Christmas extravaganza, showcasing an indoor botanical garden filled with larger-than-life blooms and fashioning photo-ready archways over ornate garden benches to coincide with the romantic theme.
