Having shot everyone from Britney Spears to J. Lo and Mariah Carey, fashion and celebrity photographer Markus Klinko’s portfolio reads like a who’s who of Hollywood stardom since the turn of the millennium. Hongkongers are in for a treat now that Klinko’s latest photography exhibition, titled 2000s: Bowie and Beyond, has opened at the Alisan Fine Arts Central Gallery as well as at the Landmark Mandarin Oriental’s MO Bar.
The exhibition marks the first time Klinko has shown his works in Hong Kong and it’s all for a good cause too – with a portion of the proceeds going to the Hong Kong Adventist Hospital Foundation. Portraits of the late David Bowie, as well as Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, Priyanka Chopra and Pamela Anderson are all on show, their images blown up to larger-than-life proportions that pop in Klinko’s signature hyperreal aesthetic.
“For me, this collection goes beyond celebrity photography and more so defines a greater cultural connection,” Klinko says. “The early 2000s was a very influential time of fashion, music, and entertainment that we are seeing resurface today. Being able to capture it photographically gives us a window into our past and how it has helped form our future.”
‘2000s: Bowie and Beyond’ is now open at the Alisan Fine Arts Central Gallery and the Landmark Mandarin Oriental’s MO Bar, and runs until March 16.
