Hero Design Group’s core mission is rooted in a client-centric approach, where each project is approached with meticulous care and a deep understanding of the client’s aspirations. “We look at each of their projects as if it’s our own baby,” Ann explains, emphasizing the importance of building trust and delivering personalized, soulful spaces. This commitment extends to their selection of partners, ensuring that every collaboration aligns with their high standards and vision.

What sets Hero Design Group apart is their goal to be more than just an interior design studio. Ann envisions a conscientious, turn-key service offering from inhouse contracting to a curated selection of global design elements, all vetted and filtered to ensure quality and uniqueness: this includes furniture procurement as well as access to their esteemed international design partners. From the outset, their in-house contracting team conducts comprehensive client consultations, incorporating design thinking workshops and strategy meetings, to derive a storyled design narrative that emerges from the strong collaboration between clients, designers and contractors. Their goal is to align the disconnect that often arises between these key parties and ensure the execution is always seamless. This stems from Ann’s own experiences, having faced challenges in project management and sourcing distinctive pieces when designing her own home. “Everything was the same – the same brands from Italy and furniture pieces you see in every single store,” she recalls. This fueled her motivation to pioneer a company that offers something different.

The company’s office itself serves as a testament to this vision. Its design was inspired by luxury train travel, where the office is seen as the departure point to embark on journeys with their clients. With curved windows overlooking enigmatic views of Central, the space is divided into distinct zones, each serving a specific purpose. The engaging, experiential area is used for client consultations, as well as a bar lounge which serves as a space for celebrations, socializing, and industry events to foster a sense of community and collaboration. The central “carriage” hosts conferences, meetings and more formal business pitches. The office also functions as a showroom, currently featuring exclusive pieces from Juliana Lima Vasconcellos – whom they’ve recently partnered with as their global design partner – encouraging clients to incorporate unique designs into their spaces. Collaborations with other international design talent is in the pipeline and the showroom will bring their design pieces in rotation.

Daniella Sabnani, Head of Brand and Business Development from Hero Design Group points out that one of the particular challenges is adapting global aesthetics to the city’s context. “Clients may aspire to a modern Parisian home or an Italian farmhouse aesthetic, but these styles need to be contextualized to fit the typically smaller Hong Kong flats”, she says. Hero Design Group’s strength is their ability to comprehend these desires and aesthetics, and masterfully craft a sense of place through their artful combination of various materials and elements, achieving a final result that is always seamless. Likewise, they will also be honest with clients when they don’t believe the requested aesthetic will work.
