Hermès is delving into the makeup world for the first time in 183 years with the introduction of its first lipstick line, the Rouge Hermès collection, slated for release in March 2020, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Renowned for its luxury leather goods such as the Birkin bag, the French fashion house will translate its design codes to the lipstick collection, which will feature 24 colours selected from its archive of 75,000 silk scarf swatches and 900 leather shades, arriving in two lipstick finishes inspired by its leather textures — a matte based on fine-grain suede and a satin mirroring the sheen of calf leather.
Most notably, the bold lipstick cases will be made of a lacquered metal, the same material it uses for its handbag hardware, and will feature a refillable core with a quality magnetic closure. The lipstick scent is created by Hermès perfumer Christine Nagel. The Rouge Hermès lipstick is reported to retail for $67 USD (approximately HK$520) with refills for $42 USD (approximately HK$326).
