Selena Gomez has announced she is launching her own beauty line, Rare Beauty. And it’s no surprise, given that the pop star has distinguished herself as a bold beauty enthusiast, flip-flopping from soft pastels to fierce winged liner effortlessly and often with help from her makeup artist, Hung Vanngo.
How does she define her brand’s mission? “Being rare is about being comfortable with yourself,” explained the singer across her platforms today. “I’ve stopped trying to be perfect. I just want to be me.” Here’s everything we know about Gomez’s forthcoming launch so far:
When was it announced?
Gomez filed a trademark for the line back in August, but announced its official debut recently on Instagram Live.
What’s the story behind its name?
Rare Beauty is a nod to her latest song, “Rare,” says Gomez. “It’s meant to be enjoyed—it’s very special,” she said. “We are not meant to look like everybody else, we’re meant to look like ourselves.”
What will it include?
Gomez didn’t give much away but hinted at the line’s vastness. “There’s lots and lots of other things I want to share with you guys, but we’re going to share them within a few months,” she said. Although, many believe that the bold matte red lip Gomez wore during the live-stream offers a few hints.
When is it out?
Gomez dropped the line’s official release date on Instagram. “Guys, I’ve been working on this special project for two years and can officially say Rare Beauty is launching in Sephora stores in North America this summer!” she wrote. “There’s more to share AND I can’t wait.” Neither can the beauty world.
