Simoneau was born to a Korean mother and a Canadian father. Currently based in the Big Apple for work, he grew up in a neighbourhood just a stone’s throw from Toronto’s Chinatown. After one year of high school, the then 14-year-old moved to Indiana, continuing to visit his hometown during school breaks to meet up with friends and attend his favourite EDM music festival, Veld.

Speaking of Veld Music Festival, Simoneau was scouted by his mother agency at the event, where his initial suspicions led him to toss his agent’s business card in the bin. Luckily, the then 17-year-old was spotted again on day two of the festival, received yet another card from his agent, and officially signed with WANT MANAGEMENT later that year.

Simoneau kicked off his career with a bang. He made his runway debut as an exclusive for Raf Simons’ Calvin Klein Fall/Winter 2018 show—yes, that show— which meant that he was booked ahead of time and not permitted to work for any other brand until the show. Since then, Simoneau’s projects have only gotten bigger and bigger, earning him the title of “2023 Model of the Year” on Models.com.

Mathieu Simoneau pursued business school for two years

After completing high school, Simoneau moved back to Canada to attend university. While there, he was enrolled at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Business for two years. Fast forward to 2021, Simoneau took a year off to move to New York City and pursue modelling full-time—and he’s never looked back. Simoneau’s portfolio has since grown tenfold; he’s fronted numerous magazines and Tom Ford campaigns, and become a familiar face on runways for the likes of Louis Vuitton, Emporio Armani and Helmut Lang.
