Gwyneth Paltrow is using fashion for good. The star has announced that she is auctioning off the dress she wore to the Oscars in 2000 to raise funds for COVID-19 relief efforts. The auction is part of the All In Challenge, which provides food to those in need. Via its website, the organisation auctions off celebrity items or experiences to raise funds for the likes of Meals on Wheels, No Kid Hungry, World Central Kitchen, Feeding America, and America’s Food Fund. (Madonna, A-Rod, and Ciara and Russell Wilson are a few fellow stars doing their part to help Americans experiencing food insecurity.)
With an announcement made via Instagram, Paltrow outlined her reasons for choosing to auction this piece of fashion history in particular. “It was a hand-beaded Calvin Klein dress,” Paltrow said in a video. “I wore it to the Oscars the year after I won [Best Actress for 1998’s Shakespeare in Love]. And it’s very end-of-the-’90s, which is very back in style now.”
In addition to donating the “sentimental” gown to one lucky bidder, Paltrow is promising to deliver it “over a cup of tea or a glass of wine.” The current bid is already at $6,250 with the auction ending in 12 days. Chances are it will go for much higher.
