At an event like the Critics Choice Awards, you can expect to see A-listers in elegant ball gowns and sleek suits—but a 19th-century bustle? That’s exactly what model and Squid Game star Hoyeon Jung brought to the event’s red carpet, albeit a more modernized version from Louis Vuitton’s recent spring 2022 collection. “My look for last night was a nod to Old Hollywood glamour, but with a modern edge,” Jung tells Vogue. “Nicolas [Ghesquière] was inspired by the passage of time, and I just love the idea of looking back to create something new and unexpected.”
Given Squid Game is one of the most popular shows to ever come out of Netflix, it’s safe to say Jung was one of the evening’s most anticipated stars. Her unexpected fashion choice didn’t disappoint. The gold bustle dress was embroidered with crystals and silver beads, and her subtle accessories, including black sandals and fine jewelry, only accentuated the bold design. Jung’s glam squad—Jenny Cho, Nina Park, and Yoko Sakakura—also crafted a beauty look that was another nod to Old Hollywood, her slicked, wavy hair referencing iconic styles worn by the likes of screen starlets like Jean Harlow.
Below, the star documented her whole evening for Vogue, which involved everything from breakfast burritos to quick reunions with her Squid Game castmates and fellow stars. (9-year-old Minari star Alan Kim, in a bright red suit, may just be a contender for best-dressed.) Because two looks are always better than one, Jung changed into another chic Vuitton look for the after-party. Like her red carpet attire, it’s not to be missed.
Below, see how Jung spent her night at the Critics Choice Awards.
