As Emily in Paris returns to our screens (thank you, Netflix), so too does the colourful wardrobe that is so central to the show. Whether you like them or not, the fashion choices on Emily in Paris have been much dissected – particularly those worn by Lily Collins’s character Emily Cooper, the central protagonist. The show’s star also dresses to impress off-screen, and fans who have followed the journey since the first season may have noticed the actor has upped the ante of late.

On her recent press tour promoting the third season, the 33-year-old actor has been delivering outfits with a fresh, chic twist. Whether in a floor-length cut-out Saint Laurent dress and patent leather platform heels at the Paris premiere, or a black Max Mara cashmere coat with a black lace slip dress underneath, Collins has certainly stepped into her French-girl glamour era, offering a more sophisticated take on Parisian style than her TV alter ego.

Elsewhere, Lily has worn a baby pink Alessandra Rich skirt suit with pointed-toe heels and sheer black stockings, and a crystal-studded, bow-adorned mini dress by Valentino, which she paired with an up-do reminiscent of Audrey Hepburn. And let’s not forget the mood-boosting aqua Prabal Gurung suit she wore on The Drew Barrymore Show.

What’s behind this change in fashion direction? Perhaps it’s the fact that Collins has recently started working with styling duo Rob Zangardi and Mariel Haenn (the partnership behind Jennifer Lopez’s looks)? Or maybe, with a new season (and a new year) fast approaching, the actor just felt like a wardrobe update. Whatever the reason, it’s working out exceptionally well for Lily.
