Gracie Abrams has never been afraid to bare her soul through music. Hailed as the princess of sad-girl bedroom pop, Abrams is known for her ability to blend introspective lyrics with haunting melodies. The 24-year-old singer-songwriter is set to captivate listeners again with her upcoming sophomore album, The Secret of Us, as well as her second headlining tour, “The Secret of Us Tour”, which will sweep across America later this year.

Abrams began her career by recording both covers and original songs in her bedroom and uploading them onto Instagram and SoundCloud. She eventually signed with Interscope Records and released her first single, “Mean It,” in 2019.

When concerts were cancelled during the COVID-19 pandemic, Abrams returned to her Los Angeles bedroom and continued to sing for fans through a series of online concerts dubbed the “Bedroom Shows”.

She writes her own songs

A prolific songwriter, Abrams started writing songs at the tender age of eight. On social media, she often provides fans with an intimate glimpse into her creative process: snippets of lyrics from her old diaries, videos of unfinished songs on the guitar, and pages of poems she feels inspired by. Stemming from her own experiences, Abrams’ music is deeply personal and oscillates between tenderness, angst, and yearning. Her lyrics on tracks like “Wishful Thinking” and “I know it won’t work” sound like wistful, whispered confessions. Unafraid to share her vulnerability in her music, listeners will find solace in Abrams’ raw lyrics and unfiltered emotions.

Her song “Feels Like” is about her year at university with friends in New York

The daughter of Star Wars director J.J. Abrams and Hollywood producer Katie McGrath, Abrams grew up in Los Angeles before moving across the country to study international relations in New York.

After her freshman year at Barnard College, Abrams took a leave of absence to focus on pursuing a full-time career in music. She has said that she intends to go back to school at some point in the future. Abrams credits her time at Barnard, a women’s college, for instilling in her the confidence she needed to navigate the music industry as a young woman.

She has a star-studded friend circle across the music industry

When Olivia Rodrigo released her viral hit “drivers license”, she cited Abrams’ debut EP, minor, as a source of inspiration. In 2022, Abrams opened for her longtime friend’s Sour tour.

She is a Chanel darling

Beyond music, Abrams is also making waves in the fashion industry after catching the eye of iconic fashion house Chanel. When the singer was nominated for “Best New Artist” at the 2024 Grammy Awards, she arrived in head-to-toe Chanel: Chanel makeup, manicure, and a custom bustier and skirt.

Later the same year, Chanel dressed Abrams again for another milestone when the singer made her Met Gala debut. Abrams arrived in a dreamy, ballet-inspired look from Chanel’s Haute Couture Spring-Summer 2024 collection.

Beyond the red carpet, the “I miss you, I’m sorry” singer has made appearances at the opening of Chanel’s new jewellery flagship store and the Chanel 2024 cruise show.

Fans know that Abrams’ admiration for Taylor Swift runs deep – she has been a devoted Swiftie for years and is vocal about Swift being an important source of inspiration for her own music. Abrams’ dreams came true when she opened for the North American leg of Swift’s record-breaking Eras tour.

Offstage, Abrams and Swift’s friendship blossomed and they regularly spent time making music together. In May, Abrams sent fans into a frenzy when she announced track five on her upcoming album, “us. (feat. Taylor Swift)”, is a song that the pair co-wrote. On X, Abrams gushed that “some of the most fun [I’ve] ever had in my whole entire life was writing this song together.” Abrams’ album, The Secret of Us, will be released on June 21, 2024.
