Taylor Swift is bringing a new original documentary to Netflix. The film, entitled Taylor Swift: Miss Americana, is set to air on 23 January at the Sundance Film Festival and will be available to watch on the streaming platform shortly after. For the first time, we’ll be given an intimate insight into the award-winning singer’s life.

Directed by Emmy winner Lana Wilson and produced by Academy Award winner Morgan Nevill, Netflix has described the documentary as a “raw and emotionally revealing look at one of the most iconic artists of our time.” Throughout the film, we’ll get to see a “transformational period in her life as she learns to embrace her role not only as a songwriter and performer, but as a woman harnessing the full power of her voice.” The doc will join one of the most creatively diverse line-ups ever at the annual event: 44 per cent of the 188 films are directed by one or more women, 34 per cent are directed by one or more filmmaker of colour and 15 per cent are from one or more director from the LGBTQ+ community.

The British Vogue cover star – who is set to make her acting debut in Cats – has had a testing year after leaving Big Machine Label Group. Founded by Scott Borchetta and Scooter Braun, the singer has been in dispute over her song rights after signing to a new label. However, the film doesn’t divulge great details about the disagreement.
