From “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” and “The Menu” to her Golden Globe-winning portrayal of chess prodigy Beth Harmon in “The Queen’s Gambit”, the Miami-born Argentine-British actress has soared to stardom among audiences worldwide, proving herself as a versatile talent. Here are six things you might not have known about the star.
She trained in ballet when she was younger
From a young age, the to-be actress was classically trained in ballet. Although she’s now branched off into a different genre of performing arts, dance still plays an integral part in her career: Taylor-Joy revealed that her experience learning ballet choreographies helped her memorise chess moves while filming “The Queen’s Gambit”, as well as enhance her stunts in “Furiosa”.
She’s a bookworm
Off the big screen, the actress can be found with her nose in a good book – she keeps her fans updated with her latest reads via her Instagram. Some of her recent favourites include Maya Lou’s autobiography “I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings”, and “The Four Agreements” by Don Miguel Ruiz, about maximising fulfillment and joy in one’s life.
Her Hollywood Hills house is a revamped hunting cabin
Tucked in the depths of Hollywood Hills is Taylor-Joy’s charming 2,310-square foot home. Previously a hunting cabin built in the early 1900s, it’s full of rustic charm with its earth tones and gorgeous greenery surrounding the area. It’s equipped with a fireplace, terrace and hot tub for maximum comfort.

Not only is Taylor-Joy one of the most internationally acclaimed actresses today, she also happens to be a talented musician – her performance of “Downtown (Downtempo)” from the thriller “Last Night in Soho” showcases her warm, silky vocals. The star is also an instrumentalist, playing the ukulele and guitar.
These are some of her favourite foods
As she was raised in Buenos Aires, it’s no surprise that some of the actress’ favourite foods are from her hometown. She’s a big fan of dulce de leche – a creamy dessert sauce – and empanadas, a type of pastry stuffed with different types of fillings, which are popular in Argentina.
If she could choose a Disney character to play, it would be Elsa
Taylor-Joy has expressed her love for Disney films – her first audition was for Maleficent. When asked about her dream Disney role in an interview with Vogue Hong Kong, the star chose Elsa from “Frozen”: “I think Frozen would be pretty great. It’d be very fun to shoot ice out of your hand.”
