This year’s Brit awards were a refreshing in-person affair amidst a stream of phygital events. Hosted by Jack Whitehall and held at The O2 in London, the ceremony saw 4,000 attendees, each of which needed to provide a negative test result of COVID-19 prior to admission. And the event was certainly worth the trouble.
Taylor Swift made history in a glittering Miu Miu co-ord, becoming the first female and non-British recipient of the Global Icon award, joining the prestigious list of prior winners including Elton John, Robbie Williams and David Bowie.
The double award-winning superstar Dua Lipa paid homage to her British roots in a patriotic display in custom Vivienne Westwood, her two-piece suit and skirt emblazoned with a Union Jack. The Albanian British singer performed a medley from her album Future Nostalgia, which took home Best Album for the night, while Dua also won the Best British Solo Artist award. The International rendition of the same award was snagged by the ever popular Billie Eilish, who accepted her award remotely in a cosy, oversized jumper.
Rising star winner Griff arrived in one of her own design creations, while Rina Sawayama, who was nominated for the same award, stunned in a frothy, lilac Balenciaga gown. Although not nominated for an award, 18-year-old Olivia Rodrigo wore two Dior dresses for her debut UK performance. Her statement neon-yellow tulle dress was hot off Dior’s Pre-Fall 2021 runways, while she also wore a whimsical custom red two-piece sheathed in a layer of chiffon for her performance of her breakout single, Drivers License.
