The Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) experienced its annual Guccification over the weekend, as Wilshire Boulevard played host to the museum’s tenth annual Art + Film Gala. The Gucci-sponsored event, which honours influential American creatives each year, was co-chaired in 2021 by director Steven Spielberg, Leonardo DiCaprio, and LACMA trustee Eva Chow, and drew, once again, the attendance of Hollywood’s most established.
And perhaps it was the occasion of Gucci’s centenary, but it seemed that the stars were out to shine this year, brighter than they had at the gala’s previous iterations. On the LACMA red (or should we say, teal) carpet, Gucci’s contemporary muses stepped out in full force and Alessandro Michele-engineered attire. Elle Fanning tapped into her dark side, wearing a sheer, diaphanous Gucci gown in all-black, par a flower detail at the collar—so too did Billie Eilish, Serena Williams and Kirsten Dunst don monochrome head-to-toe. Longtime Gucci proponent Dakota Johnson, on the other hand, was pretty in pink, pairing wide-leg, satin trousers with a crystal bralette.
Elsewhere, metallics and feathers reigned—drama was the order of the day, and attendees were more than willing to answer the call. Lil Nas X’s canary yellow, monogrammed suit was a highlight in more ways than one. On the neon front, Jodie Turner-Smith joined him in blinding fuschia; Awkwafina, in hot pursuit with a pink and crimson gown. The rare guests not in Gucci? They opted for the sleek and sexy—Hailey Bieber power-shouldering in Saint Laurent, and Camila Monroe in fluttery Atelier Versace.
