After fashion’s biggest night out at the Met, the industry rolled out another red carpet in the heart of New York for the Council of Fashion Designers of America Awards (CFDA). Widely dubbed as “the Oscars of fashion”, the annual event is a glamorous celebration of the best of American fashion. Hosted by British actress Emily Blunt, the 2021 CFDAs was held at the Pool + the Grill on Park Avenue in Manhattan and, like any other year, saw an A-list line-up that featured celebrities, designers, innovators and industry insiders alike.

This year, Christopher John Rogers and Bode’s Emily Bode-Aujla took home the top CFDA honours as American Womenswear Designer and Menswear Designer of the year respectively. The 2021 CFDA also marked a turning point for diversity and inclusivity in fashion, with Dapper Dan receiving the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award, the Model Alliance receiving the Positive Social Influence Award, and Aurora James being recognised for her industry-changing Fifteen Percent Pledge with the Founder’s Award.

On the red carpet, all eyes were on Zendaya — the youngest-ever recipient of the Fashion Icon Award stunned in an elegant red Vera Wang bandeau and column skirt, proving worthy of her newest fashion accolade. Another one to wow was Anya Taylor Joy, who turned heads in a purple purple Oscar de la Renta blazer minidress, accessorised with a veiled leopard print Gigi Buris hat and matching leopard print gloves, lending a certain vintage flair to her vibrant look. Meanwhile, South Korean breakout star HoYeon Jung, who took the world by storm as Sae-byeok in Netflix original thriller Squid Game, stole the show in a gorgeous black draped gown by Louis Vuitton.
