Karen Elson is a renowned supermodel who began her career at just 15 years old, gracing the runways of esteemed fashion houses like Alexander McQueen, Chanel, and Gucci. Despite battling eating disorders and anxiety in her early days, Elson has since become a mentor to younger models, actively using her platform to raise awareness about the industry’s challenges such as body shaming and boundary violations. In addition to her successful modelling career, Elson is also a talented performer, having founded the political cabaret troupe The Citizens Band and showcased her striking vocal skills through a variety of cover songs and original compositions.

Karen Elson made her runway debut in Gianni Versace’s final couture collection in 1997. At the young age of 18, she recounted her first show being a “daunting” experience as legendary supermodels like Naomi Campbell and Shalom Harlow walked too – a feeling she describes as akin to being the “new girl at school”. Little did she know that these top models would soon become her close peers, as a year later, Elson was photographed alongside them for Vogue.

Giving her fans another reason to love her, the down-to-earth supermodel stood by her decision, saying “Yes, I threw off my shoes on the runway like a petulant diva. In my defence, they cut my feet open.”

Supermodel Elson was the star of the inspired Moschino 2022 resort collection films, which brought Jeremy Scott’s whimsical, campy aesthetic to life.
