Ahead of the unveiling of Karl Lagerfeld’s final Chanel collection at Paris Fashion Week, the revered French fashion house has launched a new podcast series featuring one of the late designer’s final interviews.
The first episode of Chanel’s 3.55 podcast series is a 45-minute interview between Monocle editor in chief Tyler Brûlé and Lagerfeld, and captures Lagerfeld speaking on his design philosophy, his interests, his thoughts on bad taste (“Before the 18th century, there was no bad taste,” Lagerfeld quips), and his over-three-decades-long legacy at Chanel. The discussion was recorded hours before Chanel’s Egyptian art-inspired Métiers d’Art show, which took place at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York in December 2018.
Lagerfeld treats us to quotable moments from the outset; “I hate the expression ‘you have to deliver for,’” Lagerfeld says in response to the idea that he is obliged to keep designing for Chanel. “I’m delighted to do it.” Listen to his full interview below.
