Pictures of actress Priyanka Chopra and singer Nick Jonas’ wedding came close to breaking the internet back in December thanks to several ceremonies that put the wedding scene of Crazy Rich Asians to shame. The aftermath has continued this week with photos of the couple’s pre-wedding ritual surfacing on Instagram.
Known as the haldi ceremony, the ritual sees turmeric paste mixed with rose water applied to the couple’s faces and bodies, taking place on the morning of the wedding day at either the bride or groom’s home. It is believed to bring auspiciousness and ward off evil spirits from the soon-to-be-married couple.
Fitting in with rest of the wedding festivities, even Nick and Priyanka’s haldi ceremony was more lavish than most. The bride wore a white dress and shawl with a red embroidered trim, a red and yellow bandhani dupatta scarf, a gold choker and matching maang tikka forehead ornament, and chandbali earrings. This groom was in an anarkali frock with matching red embroidery along the neckline.
