Popularised in the late ‘60s and early ‘70s, tie dye has long been associated with free love, psychedelic music and art. It’s made using an ancient resist-dyeing technique involving folding, twisting or pleating fabric, binding with string, and, finally, the application of dye to create streaks of colour. For 2020, the process has been appropriated for the runway, with a distinctly sophisticated feel, seen from brands including Louis Vuitton, Prada and Dior along with independent names such as Nanushka and Beau Souci.
