Tailoring was a common trend throughout Autumn/Winter 2019 fashion month, offering a fresh take on traditional cuts. At Paris Fashion Week, classic silhouettes were dramatised with assertively wide shoulders at Saint Laurent, Dries Van Noten and Balenciaga, and dainty tucked-in waists at Stella McCartney and Lanvin. Draped panels gave a romantic edge at Alexander McQueen, Off-White, Nina Ricci and Emilia Wickstead, while deconstruction reigned supreme at Proenza Schouler and Dion Lee. We saw modern materials and colours at Sies Marjan and Bottega Veneta while French Maisons Celine and Chanel stuck with classic ’80s codes. In Milan Fashion Week, heavier wool blazers excelled in monochrome palettes and minimalist cuts at Max Mara, Jil Sander and Prada.
