Prabal Gurung’s Fall/Winter 2019 Ready-to-Wear collection made a strong (suit)case for the stylish nomad. The globetrotting designer’s latest season drew from his recent travels to Nepal, China, and India, and packed a medley of South Asian motifs into a punchy-hued and richly-textured collection.
Beyond its cross-cultural references, this season demonstrated range with 51 looks spanning street-ready cargo pants to an elegant velvet evening gown. Gurung’s tact as a master colorist flourished with hits like the opening neon pink quilted coat, the flirty multi-print dresses, and the opulent brocades and electric tie-dyes. Transitioning to the after-dark looks were sparkly graphics of Asian landmarks like the Taj Mahal, which were printed on plush black textiles trimmed with feathers. The diversity also translated to an inclusive model cast not short of buzz-worthy names — Bella Hadid, Candice Swanepoel, Ashley Graham, Winnie Harlow and Yoon Young Bae made for a line-up as vibrant as the clothing.
