Beatrice Ho shines with exuberance and enthusiasm as I meet her at her Park Avenue apartment in New York where she has lived since the pandemic for the last two years. Famously known as the great granddaughter of gambling tycoon Stanley Ho and daughter of Hong Kong business woman Daisy Ho. Her apartment is fun, feminine and full of character just like herself.
Beatrice splits her time between HK and NYC. “Firstly, I adore the juxtaposition of NYC’s architecture – from tree-lined, pre-war Park Avenue apartments to the avant-garde, glass skyscrapers. It is also irrefutable that New Yorkers are at the forefront of fashion and beauty trends. I actually get a lot of inspiration from walking around Madison Avenue and Soho. NYC is also an amalgamation of different US cultures as well as the epitome of social and cultural assimilation, thus giving rise to unique, exotic experiences, and opportunities to meet people from different backgrounds.” But when in Hong Kong she loves that her friends and family are within such close proximity to each other.
Her apartment is inspired by art deco and modern minimalism as seen by various pieces by Jonathan Adler, Ralph Lauren home and West Elm. There are unparalleled views over Park avenue with the floor to ceiling windows allowing an abundance of light to stream in. The fun and trendy element is seen by the pop art culture juxtaposed by mid century art pieces. “It is mostly glass, brass, and white, with different accents of colors and silhouettes. I did not want to overwhelm the space, since the glass windows of the corner unit with unobstructed, unparalleled Park Avenue views is one of the coveted aspects of this home.”
The open planned hallway, with oak floors running throughout the apartment, captures her love of textures and floral designs. There are flowers in various hues of pinks and cream from Venus et Fleurs In almost every corner. “My favorite room is the entryway area. As a lifelong fan of art deco, it is natural for me to select a gold European vintage and retro looking mirror to set the tone. I decided to pair it with a large, white, Mongolian fur bench to add a dimension of playfulness and femininity to the entryway. My vision is to employ different textures and combinations of colors – white, gold, and espresso – to create a luxurious ambiance. The Ralph Lauren blanket not only brings additional comfort, but it also seamlessly blends into the neutral color palette I pre-selected.”
The stand out pieces are the Fornasetti plates on the wall and the ornate gold mirror “From a young age, my father has taught me how to appreciate the tradition of European furniture’s elegant appearance, and meticulously handcrafted designs and silhouettes. I distinctly remember we had a Fornasetti umbrella stand over 20 years ago. I was not cognizant as to why he deemed it worthy to be an entryway piece, since I was spooked by the fanciful motifs and surrealist images such as: the sun, the moon, the recurring face of Lina Cavalieri. Several years later, him and I attended the Louis Vuitton trunk show together and were both impressed by this showstopping set of LV x Fornasetti trunks, thus re-igniting my interest and understanding of the brand. So when it came to decorating this apartment, adding Fornasetti to my art-deco inspired home was awise and inevitable choice, both for aesthetic and sentimental reasons.”
As we enter through the glass doors to the open planned living and dining room area you can clearly see that several pieces distinguish this as Beatrice Ho’s home. Particularly the Jonathan Adler Globo pieces – the pink custom console table and the gold circular mirrors. “Despite my affinity for the glamorous art deco style, I selected these mid-century modern pieces from JA to add youth, a pop of vibrant color, and unique dimension to the home. The glitzy, pink, modern aesthetic is a reflection of my love for being girly and avant-garde.”
Beatrice the fashionista makes an obvious statement of her love of fashion with a clear wardrobe dedicated to her shoes and tails of designer clothes. “From a young age, I have always loved bows, tulle, sequins, feathers, crystals etc., and have stayed very loyal to that style. Consequently, I am a huge Giambattista Valli, Dior, Miu Miu, and Zimmermann fan. I believe that these brands successfully epitomize and reflect my interpretation of beauty, grace, and sophistication.”
All in all this whimsical and vibrant apartment is filled with love that invites us all into Beatrice’s world.
