If there’s anything I’ve learnt after decades in the fashion industry and 14 years building the world’s leading second-hand fashion platform, it’s that what’s “in fashion” is always changing. Trends come, trends go and, more often than not, the same trends repeat themselves years later in an endless cycle fuelled by designers, social media and our own ever-evolving shopping habits. Which is another way of saying that fashion is anything but boring! No matter the season, I know there will always be something to look forward to – a new silhouette, a fresh colour palette or an old favourite born anew. Here are the trends I’m excited about this season and a few pieces I’ve selected from Vestiaire Collective.

Fun & Games

I envision seeing more playful and conceptual fashion pieces mixing extravagance and reductionism. It’s refreshing to see designers having fun with their creativity and with fashion again. Jonathan Anderson’s Pixel collection for Loewe SS23 is a great example – these pieces will definitely turn heads! Of course, the late Issey Miyake is the designer who put technology-driven fashion on the map in the first place. This colourful piece from his prism-inspired Bao Bao line of handbags is an easy way to add some eccentricity to any outfit.

Back To Basics

I’ve been noticing a revival of certain classic and iconic styles, which make a great addition to a wardrobe because they can complement any look. Classic silhouettes and signature brand favourites like The Gucci Horsebit 1955 and the Mini Lady Dior are both timeless and on-trend, with their iconic shapes and materials lending a classic vibe while conveying luxury without being flashy.

What’s Old Is New

Gen Z consumers seem to have a bigger appetite as of late for vintage pieces, which are seeing a comeback in either light hues or very bright colours. Some of my favourites for this season are this Courrèges jacket from the 1970s or ’80s, whose bold pink colourway immediately made me think of the new Barbiecore trend, and this olive green cropped sweatshirt from Celine that’s an upscale take on the classic American college sweater. Fendi’s Peekaboo bag also made a big return recently with Naomi Campbell as its official muse – and is definitely here to stay. This 2019 version in nude pink grained leather is a stylish and versatile way to embrace the trend.
