大家也許對Isabel Toledo認識不深，因為她不像現今大部分的時尚設計師般高調。她致力於將時尚作為一種手藝和自我表達，在曼哈頓中城一個風景如畫的閣樓里辛勤工作，與她的合作夥伴兼丈夫一起，在藝術，舞蹈和戲劇的世界裡找尋設計靈感，Andy Warhol，Jean-Michel Basquiat等人都是她的好友。

如今不少設計師重視大碼模特兒，為非標準身形女性設計，但是2006年至2007年擔任Anne Klein的創意總監以及Lane Fashion的系列，Isabel Toledo就已經注意到大碼消費者的需求，為她們創作時尚的服裝選擇，是擁抱多樣性的時裝業先驅。

「時尚是每個女人的語言，每個女人的工具，」2014年，Isabel Toledo為大碼消費者推出Lane Bryan系列時說：「我的理想恰好是多樣性。我喜歡差異。我喜歡變化。我喜歡實驗和怪癖。」Isabel Toledo的設計，固然不如她的歐洲同業樣奪目華麗，但Toledo將她對建築的痴迷化作實用的美式時尚，滿足了當地的體形大碼人士，並為Obama創造歷史一頁，已大家值得紀念。
